| The
Rhinoplasty procedure is performed to sculpt and refine
the appearance of your nose. The nose is reshaped by reducing
or increasing size, changing the shape of the bridge or
tip, removing a hump, narrowing the span of the nostrils,
or changing the angle between the nose and the upper lip.
Small changes in nasal contour can change the entire facial
appearance. Rhinoplasty surgery may also correct breathing
problems. |
 |
| During
your initial consultation with Dr. Kolker, he will thoroughly
discuss with you your desires and expectations for surgery.
He will conduct a thorough examination of the inside and
outside of your nose, as well as of the rest of your face.
As facial harmony is the goal, a balance between the nose
and other facial features is important. With the aid of
digital photography and computer imaging, Dr. Kolker will
carefully plan with you the combination of techniques
that will help achieve your most natural and desired result. |
|
| Small
incisions are made within the nostrils and occasionally
at the base of the nose. Using a combination of techniques,
the nasal bones are cut and narrowed to resculpt the structure
of the nose. The tip may be refined by the removal or
addition of cartilage. The profile of the nose can be
lowered or elevated. A droopy nose can be lifted, and
a bulbous tip may be reduced. Under certain circumstances,
a graft of cartilage from another part of the body may
be used to improve the final shape of the nose. A splint
will be placed outside and occasionally inside the nose
to provide extra support. The procedure takes between
two and four hours depending on your skin type and the
number of procedures you have at once. Rhinoplasty surgery
is usually performed as an ambulatory procedure in our
fully accredited in-office surgical facility. |
 |
| Expect
bruising around the eyes following Rhinoplasty, which
lasts up two to three weeks. The nose will be swollen.
Cold compresses around the eyes will help alleviate swelling
and discomfort. Most swelling resolves after several weeks,
but final settling and shape will be seen at six months
to a year. You should plan on allowing a week for recuperation.
Most people return to school or work after one to two
weeks. Light aerobic exercise is begun after two weeks
and more strenuous activity is begun after three weeks.
Exposure to the sun must be limited for several months
following surgery. |
