Loose, sagging skin and excess fat of the neck and jowls are the hallmarks of the aging face. These may be seen following weight loss or gain, and are associated with the effects of age and gravity. Necklift surgery corrects the sagging skin and excess fat of the neck, producing more definition of your face, accentuation of your jaw line, and a more youthful appearance.

The classic necklift procedure is often performed in conjunction with a facelift, producing rejuvenation of the face and neck together. The underlying muscles are tightened, and excess skin is trimmed producing a sharper more youthful neckline. For people who do not require skin excision, liposuction of the neck region can be performed with or without muscle tightening to produce a more sculpted and angular jawline.

During your initial consultation with Dr. Kolker, he will thoroughly discuss with you your desires and expectations for surgery. He will conduct a thorough examination of the skin and soft tissues of your face and neck. With the aid of digital photography and computer imaging, Dr. Kolker will carefully plan with you the procedure or combinations of procedures that will help achieve your most natural and desired result.
When there is only mild or moderate skin excess, fat from above and below the neck muscles is removed using small suction cannulas through tiny incisions. A small incision may be added just beneath the chin to allow for the tightening of the muscles in the midline. When there is more significant skin excess, the necklift is performed through incisions concealed inconspicuously within the hairline and ears. The muscles and deep tissues are tightened and excess skin is removed to restore a more youthful shape to the neck. The necklift procedure takes between two to four hours. It is performed in our fully accredited in-office surgery center. A private duty nurse will attend to you over night following surgery.
Most patients experience only mild discomfort. Swelling and bruising are expected, and generally resolve after two weeks. You will be seen by Dr. Kolker frequently in the post-surgery period. If small drain tubes were used, they will be removed on the first day following surgery. Most stitches will be removed after five days and stitches within the hairline will be removed after the tenth day. You should plan on allowing a week for recuperation. Most people return to work after 10 days to two weeks. Light aerobic exercise is begun after two weeks and more strenuous activity is begun after three weeks. Exposure to the sun must be limited for several months following surgery.
