As men and women age, the effects of gravity, sun and stress manifest themselves to varying degrees in the shape and texture of the face. The most common complaints are of drooping, sagging skin, loose jowls, fine and coarse wrinkles, and of a tired, aged look.

A facelift is a procedure that restores the skin and soft tissues of the face to a more youthful position, producing a refreshed, rested, and rejuvenated appearance. It tightens loose muscles under the skin, re-suspends soft tissues and redefines the cheek, jaw, and necklines. The facelift is often performed in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation procedures including eyelift, browlift, and fat injections.

During your initial consultation with Dr. Kolker, he will thoroughly discuss with you your desires and expectations for surgery. He will examine your face, including your skin, tissue, and bone structure and will carefully review with you the procedure or combination of procedures that suit you best. Dr. Kolker will answer all questions that you might have regarding any step of the process.
The facelift is performed through incisions concealed inconspicuously within the hairline and ears. The muscles and deep tissues are tightened and the fat is sculpted to restore a more youthful shape to the face and neck. Excess skin is removed to treat the creases and folds that distort the natural lines of your face. Great care is taken to ensure that the skin is taut, never over corrected. A natural and rejuvenated appearance is always the goal. The facelift procedure takes between 3 - 4 hours. It is performed in our fully accredited in-office surgery center. A private duty nurse will attend to you overnight following surgery.
Most patients experience only mild discomfort. Swelling and bruising are expected, and generally resolve after two weeks. You will be seen by Dr. Kolker frequently in the post-surgery period. Small drain tubes will be removed on the first day following surgery. Most stitches will be removed after five days and stitches within the hairline will be removed after the tenth day. You should plan on allowing a week for recuperation. Most people return to work after 10 days to two weeks. Light aerobic exercise is begun after two weeks and more strenuous activity is begun after three weeks. Exposure to the sun must be limited for several months following surgery.
