Age, sun exposure and gravity often produce a descent in the normal position of the eyebrows. Stress and muscle overactivity, in an attempt to elevate the position of the brows, contribute to forehead wrinkling, and an aged look. A forehead lift or browlift restores drooping eyebrows to a more natural and youthful position and smoothes the horizontal lines of the forehead. This procedure provides a fresher, more rested appearance to the eyes and face. The forehead lift is often performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery. The forehead lift is the surgery of choice when excess upper eyelid skin is caused by drooping eyebrows or when deep forehead wrinkles and furrows between the eyes are present.

During your initial consultation with Dr. Kolker, he will thoroughly discuss with you your desires and expectations for surgery. He will conduct a thorough examination of the skin and tissues around your forehead, eyes and face. He will carefully review with you the procedure or combination of procedures that suit you best. Dr. Kolker will answer all questions that you might have regarding any step of the process.
Depending upon your specific needs, the forehead lift maybe performed using the classic, "coronal" technique, or with the endoscopic technique (utilizing a video camera and instruments through small incisions). Dr. Kolker will discuss each option with you carefully, and together you will decide on the technique that is most appropriate to achieve your goals.

With the coronal browlift, an incision is made across the scalp, within the hairline. The skin and soft tissues will be loosened down to the brows, the small muscles that produce wrinkling between the eyes will be removed, and the skin will be redraped upward. With the endoscopic technique, four to five small incisions are made within the hairline and an endoscope is used to visualize the elevation of the forehead skin and soft tissues using small instruments. The muscles that produce wrinkles are cut and the deep tissues are resuspended, restoring the brows to a smoother, more youthful appearance. The procedure takes between two and four hours depending on your skin type and the number of procedures you have at once. Browlift surgery is performed in our fully accredited in-office surgical facility. A private duty nurse will attend to you over night following surgery.

Most patients experience only mild discomfort. Swelling, bruising, numbness and itching are expected, and generally resolve after several weeks. You will be seen by Dr. Kolker frequently in the post-surgery period. Most stitches will be removed after ten days. You should plan on allowing a week for recuperation. Most people return to work after 10 days to two weeks. Light aerobic exercise is begun after two weeks and more strenuous activity is begun after three weeks. Exposure to the sun must be limited for several months following surgery.
